The Long and Short of It

Right now it’s all about the ‘midi’. It can sometimes be knee length but not quite an ankle grazer. These longer skirts dominated the Fall 13 RTW shows and were adorned by street style royalty. Teamed with a boxy sweater, it’s the new shape for autumn when Sydney’s temperature decides to drop!

Past is Present for Fall

It’s hard sometimes to articulate exactly what you like about a look but in Fall13 I saw so much I wanted to wear. Perhaps it is the combination of old becoming new again. Maybe because we have already lived these moments or identify with them, it’s like seeing an old friend again- you pick up where you left off and it’s as though no time has passed at all. From Valentino’s Victorian sensibility to Saint Laurent and Pradas 90’s grunge (moments I know too well) to those drastically longer hemlines seen at Celine, Hermes and Lanvin. As Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci referred to his Fall 2013 RTW show “I was like a gypsy—you know, gypsies are always recycling old clothes.”

A Tiffany Escapade

It felt like I did Melbourne in a cute little Tiffany & Co. box! My brief trip kept me in a 1 mile radius of Melbourne’s CBD. First off hitting the town for dinner at San Telmo (the new Argentinian restaurant) next my hotel for some much needed sleep. Quick shoe shop stop at Miss Louise & lastly the reason for my visit, breakfast at Tiffany’s, where the National Designer Award winner FROM BRITTEN P-L was announced.
